A Visit to SCPG: Exploring the Green Future of Shopping Malls — The First Research Event of APESG Strategic Research Institute Successfully Held

On September 19, 2024, the research event “Exploring Carbon Pathways at SCPG, Greening the Future,” jointly organized by the APESG Strategic Research Institute and SCPG, was successfully concluded at Shenzhen SCPG Center. The event brought together think tank experts and business leaders in the fields of carbon management and sustainable development from both Mainland China and Hong Kong. Through on-site visits and sustainability-focused discussions, participants collectively explored low-carbon transformation and sustainable development pathways for the shopping mall industry in the era of existing assets.

Visiting SCPG Shopping Mall — A Benchmark Project for Low-Carbon Transformation

As the first stop of the research event, SCPG guided guests to the “Photovoltaic, Storage, Direct, and Flexible” Ultra-Charging Integrated Experience Center at Shenzhen SCPG Center. This project is one of the national (Shenzhen) climate investment and financing demonstration initiatives. SCPG, in collaboration with technology integrator Hailiang Technology, innovatively integrated cutting-edge technologies such as photovoltaic power generation, efficient energy storage, DC fast charging, vehicle-to-grid (V2G), and smart microgrids, achieving a pioneering practice that combines green transportation with commercial real estate.

Sustainability Seminar

During the ESG case discussion session, numerous experts gathered to focus on business sustainability and jointly explore directions for the low-carbon operation and maintenance of SCPG’s shopping malls.

In his closing remarks, Joseph Mak, Executive Dean of the Asia-Pacific ESG Strategy Research Institute (APESG), emphasized that shopping malls, as essential components of modern cities, must undergo low-carbon transformation not only in response to the national “dual-carbon” goals but also as a necessary path to enhance corporate competitiveness and meet consumers’ environmental demands.

He noted that the visit to SCPG marks an excellent beginning. APESG will organize more research events, inviting industry experts and business representatives to conduct on-site visits and in-depth exchanges with enterprises, exploring and identifying opportunities and pathways for corporate sustainable development. APESG aims to engage with more high-quality enterprises, promote experience sharing and practical application within the industry, and facilitate broad knowledge and technology exchange. Additionally, APESG is committed to building a cross-border, cross-industry communication platform. By integrating global resources, seizing international market opportunities, and precisely connecting expert insights with corporate needs, APESG seeks to establish a multi-stakeholder, mutually beneficial ecosystem, providing strong support and assistance for the green development of enterprises, industries, and the Asia-Pacific region.
