Hong Kong Express Trip for Exchange: Deepening Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation to Explore New Ecosystem of Biomedicine in the Greater Bay Area

On August 15, the “Hong Kong Express Trip: Greater Bay Area Biomedicine Enterprises Exchange Visit to Hong Kong” event, organized by the Shenzhen Qianhai Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, was successfully completed. An exchange delegation of over 30 representatives—including biomedicine enterprise representatives from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, representatives from the Qianhai Administration, business associations, APESG, and professional institutions—conducted a one-day in-depth visit and exchange in Hong Kong.

During this exchange event, Mr. Joseph Mak, Vice President of the Shenzhen Qianhai Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Dean of the Asia-Pacific ESG Strategy Research Institute (APESG), played a pivotal bridging role. He facilitated precise connections between the visiting Greater Bay Area biomedicine enterprises and multiple top-tier medical and investment institutions in Hong Kong, fostering exploration of potential collaboration opportunities for both sides.

Visit to Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital

Addressing Medical Frontiers and Discussing Breakthrough Paths for Cross-Border Collaboration

The first stop of this event was a visit to the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. Hosted by guests including Mr. Lau Chor Chiu, Deputy Hospital Chief Executive, and Mr. Chan Wai Yuk, Business Development Manager, the delegation focused on touring core and cutting-edge departments such as the Proton Therapy Centre, the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, and the Comprehensive Oncology Centre. They gained in-depth, on-site understanding of its top-tier medical equipment, internationally accredited treatment protocols, and patient-centric service management model.

Following the tour, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on core topics such as the hospital’s highly efficient and excellent operational experience, Hong Kong’s internationally aligned medication and medical device approval mechanisms, as well as the challenges and opportunities in cross-border medical collaboration. Together, they explored viable pathways for the integrated development of the Greater Bay Area’s healthcare industry.

Luncheon Exchange Session

Sharing Resource Integration Experience and Sparking Innovative Ideas

During the luncheon, the delegation conducted a thematic exchange with the management team of Hong Kong’s renowned healthcare enterprise, New Frontier Group (parent company of United Family Healthcare). New Frontier Group shared its valuable experience and forward-looking strategies in building an innovative healthcare service system and efficiently implementing cross-regional resource integration. Centering on core topics such as “Effectively Bridging Biopharmaceutical Achievements with Clinical Application” and “Exploring Innovative Models for Cross-Border Medical Cooperation,” both sides exchanged views, opening up new avenues for synergistic innovation and value co-creation within the healthcare industries of Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Meeting with InvestHK and Orient Securities

Focusing on Policy Dividends, Exploring a Springboard for Corporate Internationalization

The afternoon schedule focused on the efficient connection between industrial development and the capital market. At the thematic symposium hosted by Invest Hong Kong, Ms. Yu Ying, Vice President of Mainland Affairs of the department, delivered a welcome speech and provided a detailed introduction to the superior business environment and comprehensive support policies that Hong Kong offers to innovative technology enterprises. Representatives from the Greater Bay Area International Clinical Trial Institute and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park jointly attended this symposium, delivering thematic presentations on Hong Kong’s clinical trial resource advantages and translational opportunities, as well as the latest planning and cross-border cooperation policies of the Innovation and Technology Park, respectively. All parties engaged in in-depth discussions on how to leverage Hong Kong’s international capital market and R&D resources to accelerate the industrialization of biopharmaceutical achievements in the Greater Bay Area.

Subsequently, the delegation visited the business platform of Orient Securities. During the symposium, the group gained a detailed understanding of Orient Securities’ mature cases in areas such as investment and financing for biopharmaceutical enterprises and cross-border capital operations. They also gained an in-depth understanding of the critical role and service system of Hong Kong financial institutions in promoting the innovative incubation, capital empowerment, and international development of biopharmaceutical enterprises.

Dinner Exchange Session

Connecting with International Capital to Co-write a New Chapter in Cross-Border Cooperation

That evening, the delegation held a dinner exchange session with Hong Kong investment institutions, with representatives from several prominent investment firms such as Rui Zhi Capital and Tai Xin Capital in attendance. The discussions centered on key topics including “Full-Cycle Financing Strategies for Biopharmaceutical Enterprises,” “Early-Stage Frontier Technology Incubation and Capital Empowerment,” and “Structural Design and Compliance Pathways for Cross-Border Investment.” Preliminary investigation and follow-up intentions were reached between several enterprises and investors, laying the groundwork for substantive future cooperation.

Platform Support Empowers Industrial Cross-Border Advancement

This event not only opened direct channels for Greater Bay Area biopharmaceutical enterprises to access Hong Kong’s top-tier resources but also significantly enhanced the efficiency of cross-border integration across the entire industry chain—from “R&D, clinical trials, and regulatory approval to market listing and capital empowerment”—through in-depth dialogue and strategic synergy among government, enterprises, and capital.

As a vital bridge connecting enterprises and capital, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Sustainable Development (APESG) will further deepen investment and financing services, and actively help enterprises access international capital and achieve value growth.
